Add me as a friend, Internets!
It’s like MySpace 2.0, but it doesn’t suck.
The Penny Arcade Expo begins today in Seattle. See y’all there if you’re going; I’ll either be wearing a black t-shirt what just says BERLIN or a black t-shirt that says SYN on the front and ACK in the back.
Tonight, our friend Jakob flies into town, and tomorrow, Rebo does, for the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle. That means in two days I’ll be making two trips down I-5 to SeaTac airport and then two more as they fly out on Sunday and Monday. People from work have been staying home and and working remotely because of the massive I-5 construction. This’ll be my first foray into it. Wish me luck…
Only 12 more days till the Penny Arcade Expo in downtown Seattle starts! We’ve got friends coming in from a couple parts of the country, I’m on vacation most of the time, and I’m totally jazzed for it. Wil Wheaton is the keynote speaker this year. Anyone reading this going?
Tonight, our friend Doug is part of an art show downtown, for his print work. This will certainly lead to one too many drinks, especially given that there will be obligatory wine and chatting at the art show, and obligatory hanging out afterwards. It’ll be fun. If we have time (and aren’t three sheets to the wind) we may try to see 28 Weeks Later. Maybe.
Either Saturday or Sunday morning we’re going to run down to REI to check out their selection of GPS units for geocaching, and we likely need to do a full grocery store run (which is a pain). We usually let it go until all our supplies are run down, and then go and get 2-4 weeks of stuff at once. It’s fun, except for the half-dozen trips it requires up and down the stairs and forever unloading and storing stuff. Saturday night we also have the Mariners/Yankees game, and then Sunday is Mother’s Day, so off to West Seattle. I was tempted to check out that Martime Festival down on the waterfront as well, but aside from maybe getting to ride around Elliot Bay in a tugboat, it looks pretty bland.
There’s other stuff as well, which I know I’m completely forgetting now. I think we’ll have free time while we’re asleep.
Word up, yo. I’ll be there Saturday at least a decent chunk ‘o the afternoon. Maybe Sunday to try to score good deals. I think I wanna hit the Busiek panel.
Who’s going? Jaz, you and Ian? Everyone sound off like ya got a pair.
Out till nearly 11:30pm at the St. Patty’s day party at Jaz’s, as Andi mentioned. We’re both in pain, albeit for different reasons. She has a hangover. I didn’t fall asleep until probably 1am, and had to be up for work at 5:30am. Pity me. The maragaritas later shall be wonderful brain lubrication to get over this…
No recent news. Half asleep, slurping on coffee, dreaming of raisin bread and a hard boiled egg. ’s job hunt proceeds. No leads. If anyone knows of anything, perhaps retail, shoot her an email. We went to see Starflyer 59 up at the Paradox in Ballard this past weekend with Mike and Craig Jooones, and their friend Angela. They got musical chops out the butt, but… meh. Way too emo for me. The vocal sound and mixing was atrocious too, I don’t think I could make out 1/10th of the lyrics. At one point, Andi and I tried to dance, barely. I think the people wearing black-rimmed glasses became more rigid in protest. Good band. I just wish I knew what the hell the singer was saying.
BUT! We drank at the Jolly Roger Tap Room, the front end of the Pacific Maritime Brewery. Gotta love a pirate bar with kick-ass beer and fried pickles. I think this weekend I want to go to El Diablo again.
I definitely want Ivars this weekend. I’ve been wanting some since we got back. By the way, guess what crappy movie starts a run at a crappy theater on November 18th? I sure wouldn’t want to have to suffer through something such as that, no sirree, not me…
We went last night to see Mirrormask at the Varsity Theater up in the University District with our friends Mike & Mike. The movie was fantastic across the board. Good acting, great direction, amazing visual design–it literally is Live Action Dave McKean. Toss in the Neil Gaiman screenplay, fantasy elements, and his usual wordplay gymnastics? Friggin sweet. Before we went up there we stopped downtown and went to the Pike Place Market. I finally got to see the fish guys toss fish (they sure do yell about it a lot). There was an older Asian man busking with some sort of upright violin thing. It sounded positively haunting. Then down to Golden Age Collectibles, to pick our supply of comics/heroin; has arranged ahead of time for them to start our account up there, so that we wouldn’t miss any comics.
After that, and a hit of caffeine from Seattles Best Coffee, it was up to the U-district. I got my first taste of what Andi calls “overfriendly bus passengers”, which she’d warned me about, but she was actually really nice. So, in a weird little bit of real world/internets confluence, we met . I guess I better used to random things like that. It reminds of me talking about bumping into people in real life that said they read his Flickrsteam, but he didn’t even know them. Life in the city. I can get used to this.
We had dinner at this place up by the corner of the Ave and 45th, Ruby. Really, really yummy seafood stew, overfilled with mussels, prawn, and noodles. I want more… and then over to Big Time Brewery. Typical college pub, but I liked their oatmeal stout a lot. Very sweet. Then, home.
I can definitely get used to this.
