January 25th, 2008 Joe Szilagyi Comments

There is no spoon.

“MIKE HALL has taught himself to stretch time. He uses his powers to make him a better squash player. “It’s hard to describe, but it’s a feeling of stillness, like I’m not trapped in sequential time any more…”

Penny Arcade Expo starts today

The Penny Arcade Expo begins today in Seattle. See y’all there if you’re going; I’ll either be wearing a black t-shirt what just says BERLIN or a black t-shirt that says SYN on the front and ACK in the back.

Penny Arcade Expo Seattle: 12 days

Only 12 more days till the Penny Arcade Expo in downtown Seattle starts! We’ve got friends coming in from a couple parts of the country, I’m on vacation most of the time, and I’m totally jazzed for it. Wil Wheaton is the keynote speaker this year. Anyone reading this going?

New sport for us

I have a feeling that by next weekend or so, we’ll be beginning to dabble in something new. A sport that involves exercise, puzzle solving, hiking, math, science, and exploring both Seattle and the surrounding King County areas. Here’s a hint:

Three birds with one stone: we get our gaming fix in; we get to explore areas around us; we get exercise.

Apartment rearranging

We just spent an hour rearranging our apartment and it’s in utter disarray. We think we found a better way to arrange our TV relative to our two sofas and the easy chair–I was hellbent in my mind to get to actually keep and use each piece of furniture, and so was . So, as it stands, each has a view of the television now with how we arranged them, but the living room overall will feel much smaller and cozier since we had to move them closer together. One of our end tables has been sacrificed as a stand for the television, the DVD player, the Tivo, and the Comcast cable box. It’s much neater now, and the Playstation can fit there too… in theory. Now, we need for the living/dining/soon to be art room, and things to do still:

  • get at least 3 tall bookshelves (for DVDs/extra book space, we can theoretically fit a total of 7 of these in the room now, and have three now). Probably from Target–solid, cheap, easy to put together, and they deliver.
  • get an art/drafting table, plus a couple lights for it (table from craigs list I think. There’s a zillion up, just need a U-haul rental if it’s not one we can pay the guys to bring over themselves that we buy it from).
  • I’d love to be able to fit a small dinette table in what sort of is our little dining nook. This may be doable with chairs. Mayyyybe.
  • maybe buy something for our 2nd lamp (the surving end table has the first one now), like a small table. They’re nice lamps and a matching set.
  • get a chair possibly for the art table (I guess I can always roll my exiting office chair out…)
  • Unpack at last all the DVDs and stereo equipment (we have five big cardboard boxes of DVDs in the dining area, along with two massive boxes that have all the various hodgepodge pieces of our stero system). Our old ugly (but endearing) TV stand, which is too small for the replacement TV we bought after I destroyed our original, will be the new stereo stand.
  • get a measuring tape. Ours ran away from home.
  • down the road, maybe get an actual TV stand/nook for the TV stuff and stereo.
  • I want black milk crates for art supply storage I think.
  • Take a shower, I freaking STINK right now.
